Buddha Bodai Vegan Dumplings

Delight in the savory taste of Buddha Bodai’s famous veggie dumplings, crafted by one of Chinatown’s first vegan restaurants, located at 77 Mulberry Street. These dumplings are filled with a delicious plant-based filling and are perfect for pan-frying to achieve a crispy bottom and tender top.

Ingredients:

  • Wheat Flour
  • Wheat Protein

Cooking Suggestions:

Skillet Method (Potstickers):

  1. Heat a large, non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1-2 tablespoons of oil (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil) and swirl to coat the bottom.
  2. Arrange the dumplings in a single layer in the skillet, leaving a little space between each one to prevent sticking. Place them flat side down.
  3. Cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown and crispy.
  4. Carefully add about 1/4 cup of water to the skillet. Be cautious as the oil may splatter. Immediately cover the skillet with a tight-fitting lid to trap the steam.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium and steam the dumplings for 5-7 minutes until the water mostly evaporates and the filling is cooked through.
  6. Once the water evaporates, remove the lid and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to re-crisp the bottoms.
  7. Transfer the dumplings to a serving plate with the crispy side up. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Had to throw out because we steamed and they became a massive raw blob.
